The Midway Volunteer Fire Company Honor Guard was formed in 1999 when one of our life members George Stover became terminally ill. It had always been his dream for the Fire Company to have an Honor Guard. The Fire Company wanted to ensure that George would be able to see his dream come true. Before his passing a short time later, George was able to see the Honor Guard posting the colors for the first time at the annual Fire Company Banquet. A short time later the Honor Guard stood its first silent watch at a viewing and performed funeral duties for the first time. George Stover passed away on April 7, 2000.
Four years later the twelve member Honor Guard continues to expand it's involvement in honoring firefighters who are killed in the line of duty and their families. We also continue to honor our firefighters who have passed away after a life long commitment to serving the communities in which we protect.
The mission of the Midway Volunteer Fire Company Honor Guard is to honor the memory of our fallen firefighters, along with their accomplishments and commitment to life long community service, as firefighters. We will endeavor to provide comfort, support and strength to their surviving family members. We will ensure that the service and sacrifices of both the firefighters and their families are never forgotten.
In addition to this, the Honor Guard serves as a Color Guard and presents the colors at various functions including:
- Annual Fire Company Banquet
- Annual Central Bucks County Chamber of Commerce Burpee Fire Service Awards Dinner
- Annual Bucks County Fire Police Dinner
- 2003 Pennsylvania State Fire Police Dinner
We hope that this web site will inspire others in the fire service to form Honor Guards. We also hope that this web site will serve as a reference tool for other Honor Guards and as a place to communicate and share ideas and experiences. If you have any questions regarding the Honor Guard or have ideas for things you would like to see on our web site, please contact Dave Hathaway via e-mail.
